We realize that your classroom time in any course is a finite resource. Knowing how hard it is to yield time for the library/research instruction that so many students need, we have developed a MENU of instruction options of varying lengths. You can choose one or more options that you feel will best benefit your students. These sessions are also perfect for when you need to miss a class!
In 10 minutes or less we can cover:
•How to evaluate an article, book, or website
•Types of plagiarism
•Introduction to our Discovery search option
•Scholarly vs. popular materials
In 15 - 30 minutes we can cover:
•MLA, APA, or Chicago basics
•How to develop an effective search strategy
•How to refine/adjust a search
•Brainstorming techniques
In 30 - 75 minutes we can cover:
•Advanced search techniques
•Beyond Google (other search engines + why databases are better for scholarly research)
•Using Google Scholar
•Grey Literature
À la carte:
You also have the option of requiring your students to meet with us individually for a set length of time to discuss their topic, available resources, and search strategies. You can have them meet with us once or as frequently as you desire. This can be done on its own, or in conjunction with one of the other options.
To schedule one or more of these sessions, you can complete the Instruction Request Form or send an email to Marcie Boutwell at boutwellm@bethelu.edu
